ABOUT ME
Tamatha Dixon M.E.d.
I am Tamatha Dixon, a retired Educator with 27 years of experience, specializing in Special Education for 17 years. Through my extensive tenure, I have facilitated professional development for over 2,000 educators in the Dallas Independent School District. Having observed a glaring issue prevalent in after-school tutoring programs: a deficiency in tailored instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Imagine grappling with a disability such as autism, specific learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD, or ADD, which can complicate the learning process. This lack of accommodation often culminates in frustration for students, teachers, and parents alike, impeding academic advancement.
Recognizing this critical gap, I established One Step At A Time Special Needs Tutorial Services. Our mission is clear: to provide individualized support that bridges academic disparities and equips students with the necessary skills to thrive both within and beyond the confines of traditional classroom environments. Through targeted interventions, we empower each student to unlock their full potential, fostering a path toward academic success and enhanced personal development.
MY APPROACH
Social Emotional learning (S.E.L)
Social Emotional Learning focuses on the whole child. It allows the child to express and share their feelings openly about particular subjects and things that are of interest to them specifically. This information is a great resource to be utilized when developing the Behavior Intervention Plan (B.I.P) for scholars with disabilities. Especially when developing meaningful rewards that will be of interest to the scholar. The key is to ensure that the scholars display appropriate behavior both in and outside of the classroom.
